Simplicity at it’s finest with the Old English Company

All Products reviewed in this blog post were gifted to me, courtesy of Old English Company. However, all views and opinions are my own.

The lovely people at the Old English Company contacted me and asked if i would like to choose some of their products to do a review on my blog with, they gave me £50 to spend on products, and let me loose on their website!
There website is lovely, easy to navigate and they have loads and loads of amazing products to choose from; mugs, pins, prints, cards, homewear and stationary.
As you can imagine, i spent a good while looking through all the beautiful products on the webiste and if i’m totally honest, it took me a week to decide what i was going to choose!
I know, i know, procrsatination at it’s finest!
so let’s see, what did i finally choose…

Enamel Tiger Mug

When i saw this it was one of those “i just gotta have it” items. I absolutely adore tigers, they are my favourite animal ever and i would love to own one as a pet!

As this isn’t really an option right now, i figured this mug would have to suffice for the time being, it’s a Shame as i would really have liked the fluffy type!

As we are moving into our new house shortly a nice new mug will come in very handy, also i’m a binge drinker of tea so it will be put to very good use.

“You can and You will” A5 Planner

“Things in my head” A6 Notepad

I’ve been in a massive funk over the past few months, i lost my motivation and as i’ve perfected procastination so well over the years it kinda made it easy to keep me in my funk too!

When i saw this planner, it made me smile, because no matter what shit has been thrown my way in life there is one thing i know for sure, and that is “I can and I will” get through it!

Fits perfectly dont you think?

What I love about these planners is that they don’t have dates printed inside so you can add the date as you go along within it, if your like me and dont tend to write daily then this is why having no dates is so fab! Also it’s set up for the list lovers with bullet points added to each line, there’s also a little notes section at the bottom.

“You’re Entirely Bonkers” Print

I love this print and chose this for my eldest daughter (8yr old), she’s a fan of Alice in Wonderland and it fits her perfectly as she really is Entirely Bonkers!

She will be having her own bedroom when we’ve moved into our new house and i thought this would be a lovely addition to a few other things i’ve already got for her room, and this will also no doubt set her off on a love for a collection of prints too!

I will definitely be going back to the Old English Company for more as they have a huge selection of prints to choose from.

The prints they sell on their site come in a choice of 3 sizes for most and some with a choice of colour too!

“Call Dad” Coaster & Fathers Day Card

As it’s Father’s Day soon i chose this card and coaster for my Dad. He’s a bit of a handyman and as he IS the best Dad in the world this will do nicely!

The coaster, well… it explains itself really! haha

Stay Weird & Everything You Can Imagine Coasters

I figured it’s only fair i got a couple of coasters for myself too, being an expert tea drinker i will be needing somewhere to place my lovely new cup!

That’s all my Lovely items. I will definitely be using the Old English Company for future purchases… I never did choose all the stationary i wanted!

Until next time!

Much Love

5 Goals For May

Hey All, Happy May Day!

I’ve been looking forward to this month, it’s the start of some great new beginnings for me and the kids with our new home being ready this month we’ll be spending a lot of our time getting it into a shape we want, decorating rooms, buying new furniture etc, it’s going to be fun!

I thought I’d start May off with sharing my goals for the month – New month, New me and all that!

Here are my 5 Goals for May:

  1.  Setting up a Budget  – I decided I need a budget, I used to be really good at this but lately it seems I have just given up on it, my money just floats away and I have literally no idea where it’s gone to. It could be quite possible that I gave up on this as I didn’t really have to have a plan for my money with having no rent or bills to pay other than my car! But now is the time to get my shit together again and get this sorted as top priority!
  2.  Starting an Online Course – I’ve been looking into doing a few online course lately and still undecided which I’d like to start first. I will be picking out of a hat at this rate! I want to get one started before the end of this week, I may go back and finish my nutrition course before starting on something new.
  3. Create more for my Blog – I’ve been working on a plan for my blog over the past few weeks and as all my things are in storage at the moment I’ve no access to my props that I’d got hold of just before moving! I’ve been using some pictures from Pixaby but I want to get going with my own photo’s – not that I’m any good with the whole photography thing – but I do believe once I manage to start getting my own pictures up onto my blog then the blog will feel more like it belongs to me! If that makes sense.
  4. Walk more – I’ve got lazy! It’s really that simple, I use my car wayyyy more than I need to so I want to stop that habit and just get my legs moving, the weather is almost nearly kinda nice again so what better time to start.
  5. Set up a good routine – This is already a work in progress, I have a routine set up, its just fine tuning it that’s taking the time. obviously the child side of the routine is going to change soon as we move into our own house but for now it’s going ok! My bedtime routine and sleep is a bit of a mess due to my little one teething but the rest, things like social media, blogging etc seem to be coming together better. definitely needs work though!

So there we have it, five of my goals for May, although I do have a few more I’m working on, these are where my focus will be with for the month.

What are some of your goals for the month of May?

Until Next Time.

Much Love

Where I’ve been, what I’ve been Upto and where I’m going from here!

Hey all,

It’s great to be back, did you miss me? Aww, you probably didn’t even notice I’d gone anywhere! Haha.

Where I’ve been & what I’ve been Upto

The past few months have been pretty hellish to say the least, homeless, home-schooling, living with the mother, and to top it off, the company I was working with went into Administration! So yea, the past few months have been more on the down than upside.

The good news is, were all getting back on track… woohoo!

I managed to finally get my boy into a decent school and he’s settled in really well (and im glad, because home-schooling was horrendous). He loves that they go swimming every week as the school he’s at have their own pool… wish I’d of had a swimming pool in my primary school. 😕

I managed to bag my first school of choice (I should add I didn’t put any other choices…oops!) for my daughter, she will start in her reception class in September and I’m really excited and a bit apprehensive about this!

My younger two daughters are only 11 months apart in age and are pretty much like twins, they are in the same class at nursery and they do everything together, don’t get me wrong they also fight like cat and dog but they are still best buddies at the end of the day!

Maybe I’m just being daft but I worry that my youngest daughter won’t be happy without her there.

The most exciting news for me in this post is… We have a house *Yeyha* – well almost anyways, it’s getting fixed up – but I will finally have all my belongings back, won’t have to live out of bags anymore (with the 2/3 sets of clothes I have here) or sleep on floors and sofas and will have our own bloody space again!

I’m soooo looking forward to getting out of here it’s unreal, seriously!

There was me thinking a few days we’d be here but no… THREE freaking months, so far!

THE worst 3 months of our lives (ok that’s a slight exaggeration as you’ve probably never met my ex haha) but at this moment in time it’s what it feels like.

Me and the kids are really looking forward to the move and getting everything how we want it, it really is exciting times!

Where I’m going from here

As my plans, goals and life pretty much have been on hold for the past few months I’ve decided NOW is the right time to get the ball rolling!

I’ve wasted time being miserable, feeling sorry for myself and just generally put myself in a funk for all my time here – obviously I blame other people and my situation because that’s what normal people do – we don’t like to take the responsibility of it all, or is that just me?

Anyhow, I’m happy to be back on the blog and glad to be back with you lovely people, ive missed you! 😘

My intentions firstly will be to get back to my goals I set myself at the beginning of the year – except with a different time scale for those obviously.

I’ve had a few companies contact me for collaborations while I’ve been gone and it really got me, with my lack of content and my disappearing act, that people still wanted to work with me and this made me really happy and I’ve just wanted to get back on it. I’ve left opportunities hanging, missed out on people & companies to work with and all because I had my head up my arse (and my computer in storage)!

I’ve still had people viewing my blog, commenting on my posts etc and it all gives me the motivation to get back to business, so thank you to everyone who kept up with me (even when there wasn’t anything to keep up with) it means the world to me.

I’ve tried to keep up with Social Media and fellow bloggers post but to be honest, my heart just hasn’t been in it so i’ve not left the comments i’ve wanted to or interacted with people as I should have either. Sorry!

From now on though, I solemnly swear not to leave my blog hanging and leave all my lovely followers with nothing to follow! 😀

But for now, I will have to love you and leave you, I have a teething 10 month old and a weeks worth of sleep to catch up on!

Until next time,

Much Love

Hello February!

Goodbye January, Hello February!

It doesn’t seem two minutes since we were bringing in the New Year, but yet Christmas seems like a distant memory!

Review of January…

I for one am glad that January has gone so quick, for me January consisted of not really making goals for the month, a hella lotta packing, on going harassment, removing my boy from school, getting hardly any content onto my blog, and not being Upto date with social media and others blog post!

The bonus about January is that I’m finally out of the hell hole the landlord and agents called a house… another downside to that is that I’m technically homeless with 5 kids… swings and roundabouts I guess haha.

The house I wanted and hoping to move into was due to be available the second week of January, except the previous tenants still to date, have moved out but haven’t handed the keys back in so unfortunately that is on hold until the keys are available so we are currently staying in the living room at my mother’s, sofa & floors for our beds and I’m pretty much just stressing about… what’s next!

I was supposed to be at the local housing office in town on Wednesday to see if they could help us out with some temporary housing until either that house I want is available or until we find something else more suitable.

I had the girls booked in at nursery for the full day so I could get there early, except they had different plans – SICKNESS – urgh! Which means, 48hrs off nursery, no travelling into town as I now have two poorly children so those plans got put on hold.

Luckily February isn’t looking so bad as I have some great plans for life, I will be homeschooling my boy until I can get him into a suitable school, if any of you reading this do homeschooling feel free to leave some advice in the comments for what to do with a 6yr old boy.

I’m hoping to get that 5 bed house I’ve been waiting on, if not I’m sure it won’t be long before I find something I like! I’m not picky, just dubious of landlords and agents due to the recent experience… over 2yrs in the house and to get any work done I had to report them to the council. I went from the October moving in until March the following year without any heating, that was horribly cold over that winter, especially for the kids!

I reported them to the council when the front door broke (the back door never worked anyway) and we had to use the “French Doors” to get out of the house, except the back garden wasn’t worthy of any awards with its cracked and broken slabs, a falling down fence and a slanted gate that never closed correctly (i was told the garden would be done before moving in) and unable to get the pram in and out without a fight and my eldest daughter flying over said slabs and grazing her legs and arms.

I could go on for hours about the nightmares of that house but I’ll crack on…

My blog is going to get alot more content onto it, including some of the nominations I’ve had from fellow bloggers – Thank you to each, i am very much grateful for those and look forward to getting these written, I am also looking forward to getting into it all properly and I want to get my blog self-hosted towards the end of the month or at the latest mid March.

Due to January being the hectic month I’ve slacked off on pretty much all my social media and the last two weeks I’ve missed alot of everyone else’s blog posts so I’ve been spending the past couple of “sick days” catching up.

Health & Wellbeing…

My podgy belly is still here so my exercise regime and yoga need to begin as soon as possible along with some healthier eating habits too!

My health has suffered alot since having my 5th child in June last year so it will be a good goal to me back to normal… whatever normal is!

Reading Challenge…

I’m still in the process of my reading challenge and quite surprised that I’m halfway into my second book considering the crazy January but I’m also proud to have got through them so quick and really enjoyed the time I’ve spent reading.

January Blog Goals update

I have hit some of my January goals, managed a following on my blog of 124, Twitter I exceeded my goal of 500 following with a fab 647, Instagram and Facebook I’d set goal of 100 followers and I hit those too!

I’m really happy with the support I’ve had over the past couple of months within the blogging community and especially with those that take the time to read my content – limited as it is at the moment – I would not still be hitting my goals without any of you and I believe if the support wasn’t here now while it’s all up in the air that I would have probably have given up on this little journey I’ve set out on!

I Got Nominated For The Versatile Blogger Award

The Versatile Blogger Award

Wow, I’m Shocked and Excited all at the same time!

Shocked because I have been blogging for only a short amount of time, and excited because, well who doesn’t get excited about an award when they’ve started something new!

I’ll go back to me starting, I’ve actually wanted to start a Blog for years, but as always life takes over, things get in the way and you forget for a while. In my case , five kids in 8 years and up until 2 years ago I had an extra 4 children living with me too, I’m like the child collector only not the creepy kind like the dude from Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang!

I would like to Thank Melanie who blogs over at Frasers Fun House, who nominated me for The Versatile Blogger Award on 9th January 2018, She has a lovely parenting blog with children’s book reviews, fabulous days out and great gift ideas! I am so grateful to be nominated after only 2-3 weeks into my blogging life. Go check her out!

Versatile Blogger Award Pic

So, what is the Versatile Blogger Award?

Blogger awards are a fun way for bloggers to show appreciation for other bloggers and their content. Blogging is harder work than it may look like from the outside, so it means the world when we are shown in any way that we are appreciated! The Versatile Blogger Award celebrates high quality, unique, and loving content. When nominated, the blogger can choose to accept the nomination and pass it on to 15 bloggers that they believe deserve a nomination as well.

The rules to accept this award are simple:

1. Thank the person who nominated you, and link their blog. There are millions of blogs out there, and somebody chose yours!

2. Nominate 15 bloggers to keep spreading the appreciation.

3. Share 7 facts about yourself.

So here goes: 7 facts about me, Laura from Directly Laura

1.I’m currently in house number 11 in 10 years, and due to move again very soon! And no I don’t have an obsession with collecting houses to go with the collection of children. haha! Just the joy’s of renting and not finding a decent enough house/landlord!

2. I’m a procrastinator and very good at putting off the things that NEED to be done!

3. My Favorite food is Chicken & Pasta – adventurous I know!

4. I’m more of an explorer than a beach bandit on holiday’s, I prefer walking around seeing sights than sitting on a beach in the heat. My Pale skin will vouch for me haha!

5. I get bored easily and have to keep myself busy – even if it’s not productively busy!

6. I’m a Gemini.

7. I had a Winnie the Pooh bedroom until I moved out of my parents house. 🙂

So there we have it, that’s a few facts about me… I’m sure you’ll learn more about me soon!

I would like to nominate the following people & Their Blogs:

My Reading Challenge 2018

I’ve been looking for a challenge or two to do for 2018 since the beginning of December (because five kids, starting up a blog, packing and moving isn’t enough of a challenge for me in January alone) haha!

I first found the goodreads challenge which you basically set yourself a goal of how many books you will read in the year, so I’ve set myself a target of 30 books.

It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for, I wanted something different!

Since 2016 when I started up my Online business, I’ve been working more on myself so my reads have been more on the personal development side and that is basically all I’ve been reading – it’s obviously not a bad thing to do, working on yourself, but you just know when you need something more…

I’ve missed the fantasy and thrillers, the Fairytale and true stories, the chance to be lost in another world – you know the ones – and the enticement of the book world is just too great to ignore for very long.

I found it!

I found exactly what I need to get me back into the world of books :-

The Popsugar Challenge!!

Not only is this going to grow my reading experience again, but I will be experiencing books I would never normally read, such as sports and feminism – if it’s the new age feminism stuff then, yuck!

I’m in love with the idea of the challenge and I’ve made a start with my reading challenge and my first book of choice is: The Colour of Magic written by Terry Pratchett, I love his books and I found 3 of his while packing the house up, all brand new I’d bought a couple of years back that I never got round to, so it was the perfect book to begin with.

The fact it falls under three of the categories helped – although I’ll not be cheating myself out of the challenge by marking one book as three – no point in doing it that way really is there?!

If you want to join me and many others in the Popsugar reading Challenge, here’s the list you’ll be needing for 2018

Have you joined in any challenges for 2018? Or even set your own? Let me know in the comments, I’m always looking for new things to get involved in.

15 Signs of Emotional Abuse

The scars you can’t see are the hardest to heal.

Unlike physical violence, the thing with emotional abuse is that you don’t always see it as it is usually until it’s too late, because by the time you notice it for what it is, your usually in too deep.

You’ve already sunk into a depression and your riddled with anxiety. You are usually left feeling lonely because over time you’ve neglected and lost  (or so it seems) your relationships with friends and family through no fault of your own.

Some of the signs (but not limited to) of Emotional Abuse are:

  • Isolation from friends and family
  • Calls you “too sensitive” when you respond to abusive comments
  • Humiliates you, either alone or in front of others
  • *Gaslights you to make you doubt your sanity
  • Lacks respect for you and points out your mistakes
  • Blames you for his problems
  • Tries to control you and your behaviour
  • Belittles you
  • Has (extra-marital) affairs and becomes emotionally distant
  • Tells you your a bad parent or threatens to take away your children
  • Destroys your property or threatens to kill your pets
  • Not allowing you out alone, constant checking up or following you
  • Traps you in a room and doesn’t let you out
  • Makes all the decisions
  • Makes false allegations or endlessly making accusations

Unlike domestic violence, there aren’t any external signs or damage to be viewed, that would give you and everyone else too much evidence that you were in an abusive relationship.

Emotional abusers enjoy the torment and will torture you from the inside, they get inside your head and heart and like to see you being destroyed by reducing your self-esteem and confidence and doubting yourself in order to make you increasingly reliant on them. It also makes it easier to manipulate you and convince the outside world that you are crazy, unstable or jealous.

**Many survivors of Emotional Abuse in relationships state that the impact of the abuse is worse than any physical violence they experienced, however it was much more difficult to prove, to obtain protection, or even to get others to take them seriously.

*What is Gaslighting?

Gaslighting is a form of Emotional Abuse in which an abuser attempts to make you doubt your own recall or perception.

If you believe yourself to be in an abusive relationship please seek help as soon as possible. There are some helplines listed below if you’d like advice please don’t hesitate to contact them either on their website or free phone numbers: – 08081689111 – 08082000247 – 03003650112

Don’t suffer in silence.

My New Year Goals 2018

As 2017 draws to an end and a New Year comes at us in full force, it’s time to start setting some goals for 2018.

2017 has been a very, very challenging year, infact it’s been totally shite!! So many crappy things gone wrong that I now need to focus on the good things to come from the year ahead.

I’ve always been good at setting out goals but sticking to them, well that is a totally different story!

I’m living in hope that by publishing this post and having my goals plastered on the internet will give me more than enough motivation and accountability to actually get things done… I’m counting on you folks to keep my arse in check haha!

My goals for 2018 are:

  • Get self hosting
  • Monetize my blog
  • Get into the habit of regular posting
  • Grow my audience
  • Grow my presence on social media

Life – Family & Friends

  • More outings with the kids
  • Meet up with and contact friends more regularly
  • Make new friends
  • Have a family holiday – destination yet to be decided

  • Create a Miracle Morning routine
  • Exercise/ Yoga
  • Give myself some TLC
  • Make some free time for me
  • Look after my health better

There are quite a few things I want to get through this year and plenty more too that will come to light once I manage to get in a routine of the above.

I will be using the Trello app to keep me on track with my blog and creating some space in my bullet journal for tracking alot of the goals I have set myself.
I’m totally ready to rock the new year!

Let me know in the comments what some of your goals are for 2018. I’ll look forward to reading them =)

Why I don’t do Elf on a Shelf!

My views on “Buddy” the Elf…

A lot of people I know and many thousands more take to the stores or to their Christmas Cupboards to get their Elf on a Shelf ready for December 1st… Except me!

Firstly, what i’d like to know is, do these people make a plan out for the mess this monster is going to create throughout December or do they just wing it?
If I had one I would have to plan out the full month so I didn’t forget to move the stupid elf!

Secondly, why do all these people feel the need to promote Bad Behaviour before the Big day?

Surely that just asking for trouble?

I thought that Christmas was a season of goodwill, teaching your children about a time of giving and being grateful for what they do receive.

To be honest I don’t really know the ins and outs of the religious side to all the drama of Christmas, i’m not from a religious family and I’ve forgotten the majority of what i was taught about it. (Bad me I know, I’ll get to researching Christmas soon).

I do know that as a child, me and my brothers were taught about the joys of giving, we were taught to appreciate and to be greatful for all that we did receive and we always, always looked after everything we got.

To me having an Elf who does alot of naughtiness, is not only teaching the children that it’s good to be bad but also that being disrespectful of other people’s belongings is fun! How and who even comes up with these ideas?

My children can be pains in the arses without all the commotion of an evil elf destroying the place and to be fair I think it would freak my kids our knowing that a little scraggly elf was coming alive at night to be naughty!

Are you an Elf on the shelf-er? Let me know your views on the “Buddy” Elf in the comments.

Much Love

Laura xx
